help starting a home business
QUICK QUIZ: ARE YOU READY TO START A HOME BUSINESS?
Forget about having your ducks in a row. If you’re looking for help starting a home business, here’s how to really tell if you’re ready. Take this quick survey to determine where you are in the process. 1. The thought of going to work for someone else: A. Sounds great. I love my career. B. Is tolerable. I like the people and the benefits. C. Is unbearable. I’d rather scratch my eyes out than set foot in someone else's office again. 2. You work best: A. In a large office environment. I’m a great team player. B. In a smaller office. You get to know people better, and it’s more laidback. C. In a dark cubicle in the back of the office with the lights down low so no one knows I’m there. Leave me alone. 3. What motivates you? A. A nice raise and a pat on the back. B. Free pizza on Fridays. C. I’m motivated from within. If I want something I go after it. 4. If you stopped getting paid for a few weeks at a time – even if it were your own business – how would you react? A. I’d freak out. I mean, how am I supposed to pay the bills? B. I’d probably start looking for a job. It’s too uncomfortable to be in that situation. C. Oh well. Sometimes it’s feast or famine. Every entrepreneur goes through that. It’ll all work out. 5. You think you’ve got a pretty good idea for a home business – or perhaps someone has introduced you to a way to make money from home. Now you’ve got some work to do. Phone calls, marketing, networking, database building, invoicing, emailing. How does that sound? A. Sounds like a drag. I don’t want to do all that work. I may as well stick with my job. B. I can do all that. But for how long? C. Sign me up! I know it takes a lot of grunt work, especially in the beginning, to build any business. I don’t care, as long as I’m doing it for myself and not to finance someone else’s dream. ANSWER KEY: If you answered “A” to any of these questions, it’s possible you’re still married to the corporate world or the job you’re in.
