home business hints
ASK MORE QUESTIONS THAN YOU ANSWER.
These home business hints apply to anyone in any work environment because ultimately we are selling ourselves – not solely our company or our products. So we must constantly ask ourselves how we can be “better.”There is a well known story told by Dale Carnegie, author of How To Win Friends & Influence People, about a man he met at a dinner party one evening. The entire night he spent asking the other gentleman questions, showing a “genuine interest” in what he had to say. Dale Carnegie hardly spoke about himself at all. The other man was later quoted as saying that Dale Carnegie had made a great impression on him and was a fascinating person to talk to! In fact, Carnegie was skilled at the art of listening, another rare talent that when done well creates a wonderful dynamic between the person speaking and the one being spoken to. The next time you’re tempted to tune someone out (it takes practice to show genuine interest, mind you), try listening even harder. Focus on the individual words the person is speaking and be aware of your own inner dialogue that is competing with being a good listener. If you’re face-to-face, allow your eyes to meet theirs. With clients and customers it’s crucial to ask questions and take a genuine interest. Good listening is not only a courtesy and honor for the other person but it makes most people and conversations a lot more interesting! Furthermore, it helps us get inside the other person’s world. And knowing what’s important to them, how and why they make decisions, what they want/need are the foundation for good customer relations – whether you work from home or in the corporate world.
