BE A PROBLEM-SOLVER.

Home business hints that will make you more successful as an entrepreneur, and in life in general, include being a problem-solver.

The most successful endeavors begin with recognizing a lack, a gap, a problem to be solved – and developing a business devoted to fixing it.

So think of yourself as a problem-solver, as one who listens to what people want in order to provide it for them.

Or, if you’re simply creating relationships with prospective customers, you listen for cues as to what will make their lives easier or more efficient, or will save them some money. Then you go about trying to fill that need. (As ultra-preneur T. Harv Eker defines it, “An entrepreneur is someone who solves problems for people for a profit.”)

I find that sometimes I launch right into why my product is so great, only to realize halfway through a conversation or presentation, I haven’t tapped into what the other person might need or be interested in.

My sale could be lost because I’m giving them what I think they need – rather than tuning in and really supporting them.

When I get into problem-solving mode (that is, when I’m truly listening to people), the whole interaction changes. I relax my stance and stop worrying about whether they’re going to do business with me, and they in turn relax and open up to me. If we close a deal, we close a deal. If we don’t, we don’t. I may not be able to solve their problem – and they may not want their problem solved at the moment.

What’s most important is I leave my customer or prospect with a good feeling about me and my business.
